ICMC holds 2017 Annual Conference, Inducts new members
The 2017 ADR Conference was indeed a colourful event as Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators added another milestone to the achievements.
The event themed "Myth and Realities of Agitation: The Place of consensus building" was flagged open by the Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong. The Governor in his opening remarks attributed his training as a lawyer and training as a mediator as vital factors that helped him maintain peace in Plateau State.
In his keynote address, the Deputy President of the Senate, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, outlined his efforts to study ADR for his postgraduate but couldn't for lacuna on the side of the institutions. He stressed the importance of ICMC who have stepped in to fill the gap in ADR studies in our higher institutions of learning.
The President of NBA through his representative lauded ICMC for its efforts in creating awareness as well as training of professionals on the benefits of mediation stressing that if everyone would embrace mediation, there will be peace in the country. He promised that the Nigerian Bar Association would support the Institute (ICMC) where necessary.
His Royal Majesty Dr Emmanuel Onyeike Efeizomor from Delta State who was among those honoured as a fellow expressed happiness that ICMC is finally making attempts carry traditional rulers along in ADR. He said that he had practised ADR for 57 years stressing that its importance cannot be overemphasized.
Ebonyians who were inducted: Snr. Mag. Blessing Ibeabuchi Chukwu, Snr. Mag. Ruth Ken Okeh, Rev. Okechukwu Nwachukwu, Dominic Okoliko, Amaka Chukwu amongst others. The Abakaliki contingent was led by the ICMC Abakaliki president, Barr. Okechukwu Okpara.
The new associates and members were inducted into the fellowship at a dinner party held at their honour. A total of 1276 were inducted as associate members, 139 as fellows and 38 as full members.

Ebonyi begins registration of ex-IPOB members
The Ebonyi state government has announced that it will commence the registration of Ebonyi youths who were misled into joining the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

ICMC Abakaliki chapter formally inaugurated
The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) of Nigeria, Abakaliki Chapter, on Saturday concluded a four-day intensive training for intending conciliators and mediators.
The training which took place in Sandiego Hotels Abakaliki saw the likes of Engr Segun Ogunyannwo (Registrar ICMC Nigeria) Barr. Llyod Duru (Training Coordinator ICMC), Okechukwu Okpara(Chairman ICMC-Abakaliki Chapter) among others lecture the intending mediators and conciliators on the values of mediation in the justice system.
In a phone chat with the Secretary of the Justice Reforms Team (Abakaliki chapter) who is also the Director of Programmes ICMC-Abakaliki Chapter, Barr Ben Uruchi Odoh described the training as a big step in the right direction as it will strengthen the Judicial System of the State.
ICMC Nigeria also used the medium to formally inaugurate the Abakaliki chapter of the body with Okechukwu Okpara as its Chairman.
The training had over fifteen participants and successful ones will be inducted into the ICMC on the last week of November as ICMC will mark its 25th Anniversary.
