The Federal Government yesterday, agreed to pay N88 Billion naira as compensation to victims of the Nigerian/Biafra Civil War after four years of negotiation.
The Agreement was made as an out-of-court settlement following a suit filed by one Vincent Agu and 19 others against the FG and five other defendants. The suit marked ECW/CCJ/APP/06/12 was filed in 2012 at an ECOWAS Court on May 2012.
According to the Vanguard Newspapers, The agreement document requires the FG to pay N50 Billion of the compensation to the "true victims" of the Nigerian/Biafran war while a total of N38 Billion to contractors who will be tasked with total demining and destruction of recovered bombs and landmines.

The FG also agreed to build ten classroom blocks in each of the 50 communities where the schools were closed down due after landmines and abandon bombs were discovered. It agreed to release the funds because of the dangers unexploded bombs and other remnants of war posed to people in the parts of the South-East, South-South and North Central regions.
Anambra, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Ebonyi, Cross River, Abia, Enugu and Benue are among the states to benefit from the N88 Billion naira compensation
