A coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations and Community Based Organizations in Abakaliki successfully held a road walk to commemorate the World Human Rights Day.
The walk, which took off from Ishieke park saw participants wall through Gunning road-New market road- Hossana park-Gunning road-Obiri street-Afikpo street-Water works road and end at the Human Rights and Conflict Resolution office at Hilltop Road. The fun-filled event had card-bearing participants from NGOs, CBOs, Media and Human Rights activists in attendance.
Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10 December every year in the world. The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations.
