Shops at the Abakpa market popularly known as meat market in ebonyi state was almost razed to the ground when it was
realised that a section of the market was on fire. The cause of the fire
is not known at the moment but is believed to have started around 9pm.
Relevent authorities were alerted and their response was swift. It took
the prompt intervention of the Fire Service Dept, The Nigerian Police
Force, SEMA, Market and Government officials to bring the inferno under
control.
In an interview with the Deputy governor Barr. Kelechi Igwe
who was on scene commenserated with the traders and promised that the
government would come to their aid.
Over 30 traders were affected while property worth millions was lost to the fire
