Easter Celebration in Abakaliki began on a sorrowful not as multiple road accidents claimed at least seven lives among whom a professor at the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, in Ebonyi State.
The accident is believed to have been caused by poor visibility arising from the over four-hour heavy down pour in Ebonyi State on Thursday evening.
A pregnant woman are among seven people that died in a multiple motor accident at the Ezzamgbo axis of the ever-busy Abakaliki-Enugu expressway. Most of the victims died on the spot and their bodies were evacuated and taken to FETHA II, Abakaliki.
Accoording to eyewitness report, The trailer and a Toyota Camry from opposite directions had a head-on collision resulting in partial blockage of the road. This lead to the death of the professor and his driver on the spot.
The professor who was later identified as Prof. Robert Nneli, Dean, faculty of basic sciences was said to be in the company of his son, and a woman whose identity is yet to be ascertained. Both son and the Woman were said to have sustained life threatening injuries
It was gathered that while sympathizers were racing to the scene, a Hyundai i carrying five passengers rammed into the trailer killing all the occupants.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety who arrived the scene of the accident as early as possible to blocked the other part of the road and evacuated the dead bodies.
