Ebonyi State Government Suspends collection of Manifest


Ebonyi State Government has suspended the collection of manifest charges from commuters in all Mass Transit Stations in the state.



Governor David Nweze Umahi announced this during a meeting with the Association of Mass Transit Operators of Nigeria at the government house Abakaliki.

The Governor explained that the reason for the suspension was to save Commuters from experiencing further hardship occasioned by the introduction of the passenger manifest fee.

He stated that the state House of Assembly would be approached to amend the relevant section of the law for it to be scraped.

Governor Umahi further disclosed to journalists that a number of decisions were taken at the meeting stated that agreement was reached with Chief Executive of the mass Transit Operating in the state, that all private park Owners should now be paying consolidated revenue of three million naira annually and five hundred thousand naira development levy per year.

According to the Governor, registration for new parks was still two hundred and fifty thousand naira.

He appreciated the National President of the Association of Mass Transit Operators of Nigeria for coming to mediate in the strike embarked upon by mass Transit Union in the state and assured that the Ebonyi state government was always ready to work with them. In an interview, the National President of the Association of Mass Transit Operators of Nigeria, Chief Greg Inyaba said the Association accepted the decisions reached at the meeting.
