NLC mobilises for Nationwide strike as FG moves to avert it
The Nigerian Labour Congress is putting in place machinery need to achieve total compliance of the planned nationwide strike and street protests. The NLC, TUC and other civil society groups have directed
their state chapters to participate fully in the strike action against recently increased price regime of N145.00 for petrol and the increased electricity tariffs etc.
Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) have instructed their various chapters to fully mobilize its members to participate fully by closing down operations completely in all the chapters within their state from Wednesday 18th may 2016 until further notice.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has begun moves to avert the strict action. According to the vanguard, a meeting is been scheduled to take place today. The meeting is expected to involve major stakeholders including the leaders of NLC, TUC, Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), PENGASSAN etc.
It is worthy to note that PENGASSON and NUPENG had earlier in their joint National Executive Council meeting in calabar, declared their support for the deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry.
