The Senate has once again rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
This rejection comes after the State Security Service, SSS, held its ground that the nominee lacked integrity to lead the country’s anti-corruption agency.
Mr. Magu was rejected on Wednesday after he appeared before the Senate for his confirmation hearing. During the hearing, Senator Dino Melaye raised the SSS report dated March 14.
The SSS report in clear words stated that Magu had failed the integrity test and was unfit for the position.
Mr. Melaye read, “In the light of the foregoing, Magu has failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption stand of the current government,”

Controversy has been trailing the nomination of Ibrahim Magu. Although Mr. Magu gave satisfactory answers to the questions asked by the lawmakers earlier questions he was asked, the senators challenged his suitability given the report against him by the SSS.
In response, Mr. Magu questioned the credibility of the SSS which he said dispatched two reports on him with varying contents same day.
The Senate then rejected Mr. Magu’s confirmation based on the report critical of him.
