Who to believe! Nigerian Police Force says: "Evans is intact in police custody"

The story of Chukwuduneme Onwuamadike, aka "Evans" (infamously tagged "the billionaire kidnapper") has rocked the entire nation. His story has received nationwide media coverage since it broke following his arrest on the 10th of June.

The story of his activities gradually unravelled and everyone watched with eager anticipation. Nigerians felt a sense of satisfaction, relishing the hope that such a notorious criminal would soon be brought to book. No doubt many Nigerians slept safer knowing he was locked up securely.

Imagine the frenzy when the Saturday Sun Newspaper published story that implied that Evans' whereabouts remained unknown. Speculations began to fly that he was either dead, transferred to a higher security prison, charges had been dropped or he had been aided to escape.

Moments ago, the Nigerian Police Force attempting to reassure the public posted on it's social media account that:

"EVANS IS INTACT IN POLICE CUSTODY, MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE IMPLORED TO DISREGARD EVERY MISLEADING MEDIA REPORT PUBLISHED IN BOTH PRINT AND SOCIAL MEDIA THAT HE HAS BEEN RELEASED AND ALL CRIMINAL CHARGES DROPPED"

The Nigerian Police Force, responded denying reports of kidnapping Kingpin' s demise or escape.

This denial was made through, Jimoh Moshood, the spokesperson for the Police. He said, addressing newsmen this morning:

“The media need to avoid stories that could create fear, tension or misrepresentation among the masses. Where did Evans vanish to? That headline was misleading. The suspect and his accomplices are very much in our custody. We are working hard to ensure that justice is served at the end of the day. There are certain information that are not for public consumption to avoid jeopardising investigation or even national security. Evans is with the police. His whereabouts is known but cannot be made public. We are appealing to Nigerians to remain calm and support the police to conclude its investigation.”

The public is urged to remain calm and trust that the justice system will perform its duties.
