NBS: Inflation rate very high in Ebonyi State

The National Bureau of Statistics(NBS) released a report earlier in the week that the inflation rate for May was 16.25%. This is the lowest inflation rate since May 2015 and signifies that some prices of goods and service might be moderating although some might not agree,
the data also reveals some interesting data about states.

According to the NBS data, Kogi state was identified as the state with the lowest inflation rate as it was as low as 5.3% while Bayelsa state followed with an inflation rate of 11.7%. Imo, Abia and Lagos states followed closely with 13.30, 13.70, 13.80 respectively

The data indicated that Bauchi state was the state with the highest inflation rate with a whopping 21.9% but had a food inflation rate of 17.42% indicating that the problem with Bauchi state is not the cost of food but other areas such as transportation, health, communication and other issues.

Sokoto and Ebonyi States followed closely with inflation rates of 20.30% and 20.50% respectively and Food Inflation rates of 23.90% and 23.70%. From the data, Sokoto and Ebonyi States have a high cost of food prices as well as problems in the transportation, health etc. Nasarawa State has the highest food inflation rate (25.19%). Interestingly war-ravaged Borno State has an inflation rate of 16.20% and food inflation rate of 17.16%.
