"Stay away from Fanta and Sprite" EBSG tells citizens, gives NBC 7 days to retrieve products

Following a court ruling requesting a country-wide notice to Nigerians on the toxicity of fanta and spirit, the Ebonyi State Government has issued a state-wide warning to NBC, requesting them to withdraw all such products within 7 days and only return after they have met the newly set conditions set by the court. The further warned its citizens to stay away from
such products within 7 days and only return after they have met the new conditions set by the court. They further warned its citizens to stay away from fanta and sprite till further notice.

A Nigerian court had ordered the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to instruct the Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC) Plc. manufacturers of Fanta and Sprite to warn consumers of the danger of taking it with vitamin c.

According to reports, Justice Adedayo Oyebanji, of the Lagos High Court gave this order following a suit against NBC by Fijabi.

Fijabi’s counsel Abiodun Onidare told the court that his client bought large quantities of different products from NBC for export to the United Kingdom but on arrived at their destination, Fanta and Sprite failed UK Health Authorities’ sample test for human consumption, as the beverages became poisonous when mixed with Vitamin C(Ascorbic Acid).
