Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has expressed sadness over the state’s inability to access the $7million World Bank intervention fund on HIV before its expiration period. He noted that the fund would have gone a long way in controlling the HIV menance in the State.
The governor made the disclosure in Abakaliki, the state capital over the weekend, when he received the World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, African region, Mr. Rigid Benmosud.
The governor, who presented the consolidated performance of World Bank-assisted programme in the State, explained that the assistance had contributed immensely to the development efforts.
Umahi announced the approval of additional N50million to the World Bank-Assisted Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Programme to tackle the erosion challenges in the state.
He appealed to the World Bank to approve the channelisation of Azuiyiokwu River in the state, which is responsible for the flooding in the capital city during the raining season.
