The Peoples Democratic Party help a successful primary election after it has earlier canceled the elections the previous day. The Election Primaries were largely successful although there were pockets of disruption recorded in some locations.
FRSC's Unity FM stated that the elections did not go as planned in Abakpa Ward of Abakaliki LGA, which subsequently led to protests by the Hausa Communities over alleged electoral fraud stating that no elections held in the ward.
According to an eyewitness, the protester marched to the Government house gate but were not allowed access by security personnel in the area. Efforts to calm the protesters proved abortive
It took the PDP National Vice Chairman for South East, Deacon Austin Umahi who after listening to the complaints, annulled the primaries and announced that the primaries for Abakpa ward will be rescheduled and closely supervised.
According to reports, 9 out 11 LGA counsels have returned their results.
