The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued an abandoned baby girl in Umuahia.
Channelstv disclosed that the baby was abandoned by the mother with a letter
which stated that the baby should not be sold but rather requested that the baby should be handed over to motherless babies’ home or any well-meaning Nigerian who will be willing to can cater for her welfare.
In his reaction, the Abia State NSCDC Commandant, Walter Chika, pointed out that the right of every Nigerian child must be protected.
He further revealed that the abandoned baby was rescued by the Anti-Traffic Unit of the NSCDC near a health centre in Avodim village in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia state.
The NSCDC Commandant urged young women to ensure that they were ready to take care of a child before engaging in acts that could result into pregnancy.
He said that abandoning children due to inability to take care for them was a criminal offense and against the right of the Nigerian child.
Mr Chika disclosed that discussion was ongoing to ensure that the baby is properly taken care of.
