According to eye witness, the crash which occurred at Nkalagu junction of the highway involved two commercial buses travelling in opposite directions. The witness stated that one of the buses attempted to overtake another bus ahead of him, thus running into the on coming bus as the driver didn't see him coming and thereby resulting in a head on collision.
Other road users were said to have stopped to rescue the accident victims from the wreakage.
Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corp were said to have arrived the scene and led the evacuation effort.
Both the dead and injured were taken to the Annunciation Hospital in Emene, Enugu
