Gov. Dave Umahi Holds Town Hall Meeting

Yesterday, The executive governor of Ebonyi state Gov Dave Umahi, called a town hall meeting which had in attendance major stakeholders, Top Government Officials, The Organized Labour, Traditional rulers etc.


The Event which was held at the International Conference Center was to clear the air on the ongoing standoff between the Organized labour and the State government, a skeletal view of the financial situation in the country and also give an insight on the governments activities so far.
Gov. Dave Umahi gave a brief report of activities of each ministry outlining the progress made by each and what the people of Ebonyi State should expect in coming months. According to the report on the Education sector, about 662 ghost workers in addition to 20 school none existent schools were discovered the recent verification exercise being carried out in the past month.
     The governor further disclosed that the efforts are being made to get the street lights in the state capital to a functional state stating that if the streets were well lit, it would reduce the spate of insecurity in the state.

           On the issue of workers salary, The governor agreed to pay worker salaries within the week upon verification.. He directed that all civil servants should re-submit their account details as the old process of payment will no longer be used. The Organized labour had earlier threatened to go on strike on, over attempts to remove the 50% minimum wage agreed upon with the previous administration. However, despite the promise to pay, most offices were closed as at the time this report is being posted as workers are reluctant to report to work.
